Recently, SMXMU has officially received a formal letter from European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), informing that, after the voting of all the members of the EQUIS accreditation board, EFMD decided to award SMXMU five-year EQUIS accreditation. EQUIS accreditation are divided into three categories: failure, three-year and five-year. Currently about 160 business schools are accredited by EQUIS around the globe, but only 50 of them receives five-year accreditation.
From July 11 to July 14 in 2016, formed by the deans from the first-class foreign business schools, EFMD accreditation experts and senior executives from transnational corporations, the EQUIS accreditation team conducted site assessment at SMXMU for re-accreditation. Based on the previous self-assessment, the team had wide and profound discussions with the representatives of all the interested parties such as the leaders of SMXMU and XMU, faculty, students, alumnus and business employers, and examined the teaching resources and equipments on site. After strict and detailed assessment, the EQUIS accreditation team highly acknowledged and appreciated SMXMU’s improvements in ten aspects, namely the making and implement of strategic development plans in the past three years, the school, students and teaching management, scientific researches, internationalization, alumnus and enterprises networks, training programs for senior enterprise executives, teaching resources and equipments.
During the process of the EQUIS re-accreditation, with the help of the accreditation experts, objectively and more clearly, SMXMU recognized its external environment and internal resources, its strong forces and weak points. Based on the recognition, it will be better for SMXMU to map out strategies and make executable plans for the school’s continual development in teaching, scientific research, faculty team, internationalization, alumnus and enterprise networks.
EQUIS, the EFMD Quality Improvement System, is an international accreditation system established by European Foundation for Management Development to certify the quality of higher education management institutions and to promote the advancement of management education. EQUIS places great importance on the internationalization strategy of business schools and the links between colleges and enterprises. As one of the world's three most influential business education certification systems, EQUIS sticks to the highest accreditation standards. Until now, only 164 business schools from 40 countries and regions around the world has received EQUIS accreditation. The first time SMXMU was awarded EQUIS accreditation was in September 2013, for a period of three years.
