From October 3 to 7, 2019, the annual conference of management jointly held by Cardiff Business School, Newcastle Business School and The School of management of Xiamen University was grandly held in Cardiff Business School. Founded in 2014, the joint management annual meeting of the three universities is organized and held by the three universities in turn every year. It aims to promote the cooperation and academic communication of teachers and scientific researchers in the three universities, as well as the interdisciplinary research of different disciplines of management.
The joint management annual meeting of the three universities in this year is the Sixth Academic Exchange Meeting of scholars from the three universities. The theme of this conference includes academic frontier issues in the fields of accounting, finance, tourism management, marketing and so on. Nearly 40 teachers and researchers from different disciplines in three universities attended the seminar.
The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Professor Jason Xiao of Cardiff Business School, the chairman of the Organizing Committee of the conference, and Professor Calvin Jones, vice president of Cardiff Business School, delivered a welcome speech. On behalf of Cardiff Business School, Professor Calvin Jones welcomed the delegates and encouraged them to actively interact and communicate.
At the meeting on the morning of the 4th, Professor Liu Xiaohui from Birmingham University first made a thematic report entitled " Political capital and innovation performance: A study of Chinese listed firms ", which explored how the innovation performance of Listed Companies in China is affected by political capital. Subsequently, the conference was divided into two sub venues for paper reports. Venue 1: The theme of "Finance" was presided over by Professor Yang Zhao from Newcastle Business School, and two participants from the school of management of Xiamen University and one participant from Tianjin University gave a report; The theme of "forecasting" in Venue 2 was presided over by Professor Saeed heravi from Cardiff Business School, and reported by two participants from the school of management of Xiamen University and one participant from Cardiff Business School.
During the meeting in the afternoon, the theme of "finance" was presided over by Professor Qingwei Wang of Cardiff Business School, and one teacher from Xiamen University School of management, Cardiff Business School and Newcastle Business School gave a report; The theme of "management" was presided over by Professor Du Xingqiang from the school of management of Xiamen University, with one participant from the school of management of Xiamen University and Newcastle Business School respectively taking part in; The theme of "marketing" in venue 2 was presided over by Professor Simon seongsoo Jang from Cardiff Business School and reported by three teachers from the school of management from Xiamen University; The theme of "accounting" was presided over by Professor Jason Xiao from Cardiff Business School, and reported by one teacher from the school of management of Xiamen University and one teacher from Sun Yat sen University.
There were three thematic reports during the meeting on 7th. Professor Hong Zou from the University of Hong Kong gave a thematic report entitled " Director liability protection and board quality "; Professor Arman eshraghi of Cardiff Business School gave a thematic report entitled " Tracing the role of culture in finance "; Professor Jianqiao Lu of IASB gave a thematic report entitled " Recent and future developments in international accounting standards setting ".
In the afternoon, the meeting was also divided into two sub venues. For Venue 1, the theme of "Tourism" was presided over by Professor Zhou Bo from the school of management of Xiamen University, and two teachers from the school of management of Xiamen University reported; The theme of "Finance" is presided over by Professor khelifa Mazouz of Cardiff Business School and reported by two teachers from Cardiff Business School; The theme of "Finance" in venue 2 was host by Professor Michael Adams of Bath University, and a teacher from Newcastle Business School and a teacher from Cardiff Business School gave a report; The theme of "Management" was presided over by Professor Tina Xu from Cardiff Business School, and two teachers of Newcastle Business School and one teacher from Cardiff Business School reported.
Experts and scholars attending the meeting agreed that this is a high-level academic seminar, which is not only a good opportunity for cutting-edge issues in accounting, finance, market and tourism communication, but also fully shows the new progress of teachers and students from the School of Management of Xiamen University in international academic cooperation and interdisciplinary research. They said that they should make good use of the academic cooperation platforms of Xiamen University, Cardiff University and Newcastle University to continuously promote more and more valuable interdisciplinary research in management.
The difference from previous conferences is that two graduate students from the School of Management of Xiamen University went abroad to attend the conference and reported their academic research results. Their participation enriched the content of the forum. Among them, doctoral student Shangguan Lili reported on the paper "Channel selection and pricing strategy of manufacturers under e-commerce". This paper established a model considering service, price and channel preference, mainly studied whether new channels with low consumer preference should be introduced into the market by manufacturers, and what pricing strategy should be adopted to be most beneficial to manufacturers. A master student called Wen Pingping's report her thesis named " The strategy of price discrimination based on big data analysis" which mainly elaborated the rise of Internet big data, which has a huge impact on the sales strategy of operators. Through the analysis of big data, enterprises can set up services for different consumer groups, changing from traditional unified mode to personalized service. Through game theory modeling, this paper analyzes the impact of this price strategy on merchants, customers and society.
Both students said that they got a lot of modification comments for the paper through paper reporting and questioning. By listening to the paper reports of other scholars, they learned more new ideas and methods of paper research, which bring great inspirations and paly an important role in their further study and research.
