The following is the notice on the 2021 Michigan State University summer camp program issued by the University.
School Introduction
Michigan State University (MSU) is located in the Great Lakes region of the Midwest of the United States. Founded in 1855, MSU is one of the world's leading research universities. MSU is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), the academic alliance of the top universities in North America. MSU is known as a public "lvy League" and ranks among the top 30 best public universities in the United States and the top 100 universities in the world. Among them, supply chain management, packaging, primary and secondary education, media, atomic physics, industrial and organizational psychology, African history and other majors ranked first in the United States.
Project Introduction
The 2021 summer camp of MSU will set three cloud courses, namely hands-on blockchain, global entrepreneurship and innovation, and digital media:
1. Hands-on blockchain course: VIPP_Hands on Blockchain_2021.pdf
Course Introduction | Blockchain is currently emerging as a key technology platform that underpins the most transformative and disruptive innovations, affecting everything from cryptocurrencies (like Bitcoin) to global finance, cybersecurity, and entertainment and the arts. The course focuses on hands-on practice, centered around hands-on applications, where students will set up and deploy various blockchain applications on their computers under the guidance of their instructor. This course helps students understand what blockchain is, how it works and why it was developed; describe how bitcoin works and how it relates to the blockchain; set up a cryptocurrency wallet, load it and trade it; write and execute smart contracts; develop ERC-20 tokens; create and sell NFT (irreplaceable tokens); set up and run a dedicated Algorand network. |
Course Features | With advanced cloud-based technology, students can explore new and dynamic interdisciplinary fields and explore cutting-edge topics with MSU professors at home. Compared with traditional face-to-face courses, the cost of this course is greatly reduced. The interdisciplinary nature of the course makes it suitable for global students from any background interested in exploring new concepts and technologies, with no programming knowledge or experience required. International students will work with MSU students from different majors, collaborating on group assignments and projects, immersing you in a truly multicultural learning environment. |
Teacher | Neil Kane is a faculty member at MSU Business School and former director of the Center for Student Entrepreneurship. He has extensive entrepreneurial experience, having founded more than a dozen companies in a variety of industries and raised more than $20 million in venture capital. He has held various technical and marketing positions at IBM and Microsoft, is the co-author of the new book the Innovator's Secret Recipe and a Forbes columnist. |

2. Global entrepreneurship and innovation: VIPP_Global Entrepreneurship and Innovation 2021.pdf
Course Introduction | In today's world, startups are becoming important engines of global economic growth: creating jobs, creating wealth, and gathering innovative talent. This course will learn how entrepreneurs evaluate their business ideas, develop business models, and "sell" business ideas to investors. Students are encouraged to come up with business ideas and actively engage potential customers and partners to test their concepts. This course will learn entrepreneurial skills, entrepreneurial thinking styles and processes, exposure to a wide range of business concepts, including but not limited to: conceptualizing processes, business model canvases, customer discovery, value proposition development, market evaluation and validation, building financial models, investor development, and so on. |
Course Features | MSU is a campus full of innovation and entrepreneurship. In 2020, the university's Entrepreneurship program was named one of the "Top 25 Startups" by the Princeton Review, making it an ideal place to learn about entrepreneurship and innovation. This program focuses on interaction with MSU students, project discussions, and cross-cultural collaborative learning and interaction. Compared to traditional in-person courses, the cost of the course is greatly reduced and it is suitable for students from all over the world. This course is action-oriented, project-based, and focuses on learning participation and effectiveness. |
Teacher | Aubrey Wigner, PhD, Assistant Professor, MSU School of Business. He teaches and develops a course on entrepreneurship and Innovation. He emphasizes deep involvement and hands-on experience in the classroom, using a variety of teaching methods such as "design thinking", "improvisation" and "production" to help students identify problems and explore solutions in a creative and hands-on way. Professor Wigner is an award-winning teacher who focuses on elevating students to think critically and empathetic about the world, advocating for a more just and equitable future for all. In addition to Professor Wigner, successful business and social entrepreneurs will come to class as guests and share their wonderful stories. |

3.Digital media: VIPP_Digital Media_Summer 2021.pdf
Course Introduction | This course focuses on the practical training of the project and introduces the whole process from concept conception, plan to implementation centering on the innovation and development of digital media. This course implements problem solving skills training, and students will form a project team to jointly plan digital media promotion for k-pop bands (or other bands) throughout the United States. This course emphasizes hands-on skills training. Through cooperation in designing various creative advertisements, making short videos and apps, students can learn about creative new media promotion schemes suitable for the American market and improve their digital skills in modern society. |
Course Features | This course strengthens students' comprehensive ability training, including knowledge application ability, problem analysis ability, program design ability, media technology application ability, project management and implementation ability, communication and cooperation ability and so on. International students will have the opportunity to interact with MSU students, conduct project discussions, experience thematic and meaningful international exchanges and academic discussions, be exposed to pure American classroom culture, broaden their international horizons, and enhance their self-worth. This cost-effective course is suitable for students majoring in media, advertising, public relations, and other majors who are interested in this course. |
Teacher | Ross Chowles is a professor of advertising and Public Relations at MSU. Professor Chowles owns an independent advertising company. He has won several prestigious international advertising creative awards such as Cannes, Creole and Apex, and has been invited to judge advertising design competitions in Canada, South Korea and China. In 2015, Professor Chowles was appointed to the Board of One Club International. He has participated in One Show seminars in China every year since 2003. One Show is a regional creative award competition launched by One Club in Mainland China and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. It is divided into four parts: advertising and communication, interactive communication, product and service innovation, and entertainment marketing. |

Application Guide
1. Application condition
(1) Applicant should be a college student or graduate student aged 18 or above;
(2) Applicant should have intermediate English proficiency;
(3) There is no limit to the applicant's major, and all students interested in the program can apply;
(4) Applicant should have a computer and a reliable Internet connection with a webcam;
(5) Applicant is required to take real-time online courses and complete class assignments on time.

3. On-campus application procedures
This project is a transfer project of the International Division. Applicants are requested to carefully read and verify the program information before applying, and submit materials and application directly to the other party according to their actual situation and completion status in school.
