Invited by Office of International Cooperation of Xiamen University and The Southern Base of Confucius Institute Headquarters, a 9-student delegation of the University of Malta visited Xiamen University on March 30th. Ms. Huang Chen, from Office of International Cooperation of Xiamen University and Ms. Wang He, from The Southern Base of Confucius Institute Headquarters were present at the welcoming ceremony. School of Management took part in the activities by offering lectures and organizing two local company visits.
The first lecture was given by Chen Lu, guest instructor of the Tourism Department, about the tourism culture and development of Xiamen City. In the afternoon, the delegation paid a visit to BAMA Tea Company. Tasting a cup of high-quality Oolong tea, listening to the local staff’s introduction of the company’s history and culture, visiting the modern production line, the students truly submerged themselves in the world of China’s tea culture.
On the morning of April 1st, Prof. William Brown gave the second lecture on the History, Culture and Economic Development of Xiamen City. Prof. William Brown’s broad and profound knowledge of Xiamen City and China and his abundant personal experiences offered a brand-new perspective for the students to get to know the city they were visiting. They were highly surprised by Xiamen’s changing from a small fishing village to a modern seaside city. Some students even asked for Prof. William Brown’s book Magic Xiamen for further discovery.
In the afternoon, the students visited Gulong Soy Sauce Culture Zone. Students were immediately attracted by the World’s Biggest Ecological Soy Sauce Drying Yard the moment they arrived at Gulong. Guided by Gulong’s interpreter, sequentially they then visited Gulong Historical Gallery, Video Room, Wine Cellar and Gulong Supermarket. The last thing the students did was Soy Sauce DIY. They really enjoyed this part and carefully stored their soy sauce beans in a small glass to take back home as a souvenir.
The Malta student delegation’s visit to Xiamen University happened at the time when the University celebrating her 95th anniversary. It was for sure that the students have had a great experience and had a better knowledge both of Xiamen University and China. Based on better communication and understanding, University of Malta and Xiamen University will have a bright future for friendship and further cooperation.
