Dear international faculty:
The Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar. As it is approaching, the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange from XMU invites you to join some activities, which include dragon boating and making Zongzi (rice dumplings). The arrangements are as follows:

A. Drangon boat race, one of the best-known activities of the festival, is very popular in China, especially in the southern China where there are many rivers and lakes. The Physical Education Department of the University will organiza teachers and students to experience dragon boating. There are 10 seats reserved for international faculty. First come, First served. The event may be cancelled due to weather.

B. Zongzi, a traditional Chinese food, is made of glutinous rice stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo leaves. It can be cooked by steaming or boiling. We will provide three different kinds of Zongzi for you to make:

Pork Zongzi(肉粽) | dried scallops, dried shrimp, mushrooms, pork,salted egg yolks, chestnuts, glutinous rice |
Jianshui Zongzi(碱水粽) | *The glutinous rice is treated with lye water(aqueous sodium hydroxide), or potassium carbonate, giving them their distinctive yellow color. |
Red Bean Zongzi(红豆粽) | red beans, red dates, brown sugar, glutinous rice |
You can choose ONE of the following sets according to your taste and preference.
SET A: Pork Zongzi*3 and Jianshui Zongzi*3
SET B: Red Bean Zongzi*3 and Jianshui Zongzi*3
