Recently, Assistant Professor Zheng Weimin, from SMXMU’s tourism and hotel management department, as the first author, together with Associate Professor Huang Xiaoting, from Shandong University and Associate Professor Li Yuan,from School of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Xiamen University, has published an essay titled “Understanding the tourist mobility using GPS: Where is the next place?” on Tourism Management, a top international journal. The journal ranks top 5 in the field of HOSPITALITY, LEISURE, SPORT & TOURISM.
The paper mainly studies tourists’ movement patterns in scenic spots in the mobile internet era. Predict tourists’ position in the next time period, by collecting the information of tourists’ movement trails and adopting a heuristic algorithm based on the analysis of the trails information. The algorithm combines operators such as spatial location clustering, motion pattern matching and motion pattern pruning, which can balance the relationship between prediction accuracy and prediction efficiency. The research results are helpful for the improvement of personalized services based on location, the planning and management of scenic spots, and the crowding control of scenic spots.
Assistant Professor Zheng gained his Ph. D in Management in June 2015. (Sichuang University—University of Washington joint training doctoral program) He has published more than 10 essays on academic journals at home and abroad such as European Journal of Operational Research、Computers & Industrial Engineering, Journal of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management and Science Research Management, etc. In August 2015, he was employed by SMXMU and has been responsible for the youth project of National Natural Science Foundation of China: Studies On Tourists’ Movement Patterns and Their Internal Mechanisms Based On The Analysis of Trails Data, and the youth project of Humanity and Social Science Foundation of the Ministry of Education: Analysis Of Tourists’ Movement Patterns In Scenic Spots Based On Big Data, etc. His current research interests are: tourist space-time movement patterns and multi-agent simulation in the field of tourism.
