报告介绍:To understand the current relationship between the United States and China requires answers to three big questions: How does trade really work between the two nations? What are current investment opportunities and risks? How are competitive advantages changing? The aim of the lecture is to assess each question directly with three analytical approaches – historical context, current data, and predictions. First, we will examine the historical evolution of the relationship with close attention to the different motivations driving the now forty-year relationship. Second, we review and interpret the economic data focusing particularly on the impact of each country’s rise in living standards. Third, we assess the sensitive question of industrial competition as a measure of benefits and risks. Our analysis concludes with a set of new questions with a look at 2050 and 2078. What are the new dynamics required for the U.S/China relationship to foster? What are the new expectations between the two countries? Lastly, is the current foundation sustainable and a long-term partnership evolving from a historically rivalrous relationship?
