演讲题目:Information Technology Use and Supply Chain Practices:

           Exploration, Exploitation and Competitive Performance

  要:

Although past research has well documented that information technology (IT) use enables operations management and thus enhances firm performance, there is a lack of research investigating how a firm can achieve even higher performance by appropriately combining IT use patterns and supply chain practices. In addition to the enabling role of IT use, we examine how IT use patterns (i.e., exploration/exploitation activities within an organization) facilitates (or inhibits) supply chain practices (i.e., exploration/exploitation activities across organizational boundaries) to improve the firms competitive performance. Specifically, we draw upon cross-boundary ambidexterity perspective asserting that ambidexterity across multiple modes of operation (i.e., exploring in one mode and exploiting in another) enhances firm performance more than balancing exploration and exploitation within particular modes of operation (e.g., international organization, via alliances or through acquisitions). We propose that IT use for exploration (exploitation) and supply chain exploitation (exploration) would generate synergistic effects on competitive performance; whereas IT use for exploration (exploitation) would weaken the effects of supply chain exploration (exploitation) practices. Data collected from 221 firms in China generally support the research model. The findings provide new insights into how firms can reap even more benefit from collaboration with supply chain partners through deploying appropriate IT use patterns within their own organizational boundaries.
